Aimlessly wandering the streets of Marienplatz opens up a world of beautiful “Ye olde world” design and grandeur that goes somewhat by the wayside in this very fast paced and modern world of ours. Not twenty metres from where I was standing taking photos is the super-cool BMW Electric Car Showroom with a slick and beautiful i8 sports coupe in the window dressed completely in black. Talk about great contrast.
As I returned to the main plaza I noticed a plethora of participants had gathered to show their support for what I think was the legalised use of marijuarna. I’m sure there were also tourists flocking around to see what was going on, just like I was.
One of our greatest inspirations in life is food!……..and on a quite day (NOT!) in Marienplatz I walked around the corner from the main plaza and stumbled into the local produce market. What a great find this was. There were all sorts of goodies to wrap your laughin’ gear around and the providores were quite happy for you to sample their produce.
There were people sitting and eating all sorts of delights from the market stalls. One that comes to mind is the herb and spice stall, filled with all sorts of tasty morsels. 30 different types of marinades and 25 different dressings. I didn’t try all of them but I certainly got a free lunch as the sampling bread was fabulous to dip in everything.
As I walked out of the markets about an hour later, what I hadn’t realised was that I had walked past all of the sausage butcheries along the way; about 10 to be precise. I thought to myself “its a day off”. So I will stick around and try at least some of whats on offer. staring in the window I see what I want to try, walking in I am asked what I would like. In my best German I point at the sausage that has caught my eye. Handing it to me wrapped grease proof paper I handover 4 euros and I am off. The next two minutes of my life are a true taste sensation…..OMG! This is without a doubt the best spicy sausage I have ever tasted……savouring each bite I slowly walk to the station and make my way back to Deisenhofen thinking “I don’t want to clean my teeth”.
